Assemblies of God Statement
of Fundamental Truths
The Bible is our all-sufficient rule for faith
and practice. Our doctrinal statement is intended simply as a basis
of fellowship among us (i.e., that we all speak the same thing, 1
Corinthians 1:10; Acts 2:42).The phraseology employed in this
statement is not inspired or contended for, but the truth set forth
is held to be essential to a full-gospel ministry. No claim is made
that it contains all biblical truth, only that it covers our need as
to these fundamental doctrines.
- The Bible is the inspired
and only infallible and authoritative rule of faith and conduct
(2 Timothy 3:16)
- There is one God,
eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son,
and God the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:14)
- Mankind was created good
and upright. However, mankind by voluntary transgression fell
and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual
death, which is separation from God. (Genesis 1:26-3:24)
- The deity of our Lord
Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His
miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily
resurrection, in His ascension to the right a hand of the Father,
and in his personal future return to this earth in power and glory
to rule a thousand years (Matthew 16:16; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
- The only means of being
cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the blood of
Christ (1 Peter 1:18-21)
- Regeneration by the Holy
Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation (John
3:3-5)
- In the sanctifying power
of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to
live a holy life (Galatians 5:16-25)
- Divine healing is an
integral part of the gospel. (Matthew 8:16-17).
- The ordinances of the
church are Baptism in Water (Matthew 28:18-20 and Holy Communion
(1 Corinthians 11:23-26).
- The baptism of the Holy
Spirit, according to Acts 2:4, is given to believers who ask for
it (Acts 2:39)
- The church’s mission
includes proclaiming the gospel, gathering for worship, and
following Jesus together that we may mature in him (Mathew
28:18-20).
- A divinely called and
scripturally ordained ministry has been provided by our Lord for
the threefold purpose of leading the Church in its mission
(Ephesians 4:11-16).
- In the blessed hope at
Christ’s coming (Titus 2:13)
- The visible return of
Christ with His saints to reign on earth for one thousand years
(Revelation 20:1-6).
- In the resurrection of
both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the
other to everlasting punishment (John 5:28-29).
- The new heavens and the
new earth (Revelation 22)
